Today, on Sunday as my regular Sunday, I always take out some time and watch either podcast or interviews, and out of nowhere, I got this recommendation of Sudha Murthy’s interview. To be very honest, I have never seen a simple and straight interview like this. Her response to every question was very simple and straight-forward and that fascinated me very much.

Sudha Murthy

Sudha Murthy: The chairperson of the Infosys Foundation, wife of the co-founder of Infosys, N.R Narayana Murthy, and an Indian engineering teacher, an author, and a social worker as well.

I have watched few interviews with Sir N.R Narayana Murthy but never had the chance to listen to this great lady, though I knew many achievements of her.
When I finished watching the above interview, I was so happy and positive that I decided to either share this video link or write something about her. But then I decided to simply write her words or the gist of the interview, though the message she has conveyed is impossible to replicate in words and therefore I am writing especially for the people who don’t give their time to watching someone’s interviews or listening to podcasts.

Here we go: (No exaggeration and no new added words)

Q. What is the meaning of life?

Defining life is like blind people identifying the ELEPHANT. Someone says hair is the elephant, someone says the leg is the elephant.
Everybody has their way of the meaning of life with their experience and observations. Even for husband and wife, their meaning of life is different.
2 sisters will have completely different life.
It’s like a marathon and that person has to run.

Life is bigger than Romance because after romance you meet Real life.

Hard doesn’t mean bad.

Forgive is okay, forget is better, move on is best

Sudha Murthy’s grandfather:

“Seeking knowledge is very important”

“Have a simple way of living”

“Love for books”

“Don’t get addicted to anything”

Sudha Murthy’s grandmother:

“Be practical in life”

“Be compassionate for the hungry people”

Sudha Murthy’s father(a doctor):

“God is not in the temple, mosque, or church. God is always in the patient. Help the poor one and be happy in that.”

Sudha Murthy’s mother:

“If you adopt good habits from the beginning, it will be really easy for you to take forward”

“Don’t spend money without reasons”

Sudha Murthy’s husband:

“You should not talk too much, you should always talk when someone is listening.”

“It is the passion that takes you up and it takes a lot of sacrifices to conquer your passion”

On the current INFOSYS:

“I never dreamt of something this big where Infosys is at right now. I only knew that I have to help and support Murthy for his passion”

“It’s not the money which makes you happy, it’s the courage which is more important”

My expectation in life is very very small, that is why I was always happy

On current generation children:

These generation people they have never shared in life in difficulties

Children in this generation have been brought up in luxury, comforts, money, and they were less in numbers.

When you are brought up in prosperity, then nothing makes you happy.
Every year their expectation in life, affordability, situation increases and goes on changing and there comes a stage, where nothing makes them happy.
And eventually, small things happen to them and they get into depression.

My generation people used to share, reject, enjoy.

“Today, children are scared of rejection. Failed in the exam and committed suicide, failed in or rejected in love, and committed suicide.
No, there should be:” Ye Nahi Toh Kuch Aur Sahi”.

Life should move on.”

Life offers you many things which you never expect including Corona.
In life, we have control of only 10–15% of the events.
Be adjustable and nice to people.

When I joined engineering college, where there were no girls and I decided to excel in my education and nothing else.
I used to get a masala dosa for the first rank and that also once a year.

And in failure, I always used to think:

“I may lose the battle but I will win the war.”

I never had the mentality to show that I am smarter than you. I am happy because I am good.

Books related to Sudha Murthy’s works:

“I don’t think too much, I always think of today and what is possible to help others.”

On relationship hustle:

“Put yourself into other’s shoes and then cool down and discuss”

On staying grounded:

“Because I consider myself a very ordinary person and I believe in it. There is nothing special and therefore I remain grounded.”

On meeting with Abdul Kalam:

“He was a very simple, passionate man and always thought about the Country.
It is possible to do what we dream and it takes time.”

On good life:

Contentment in life and life with no regret.
Whatever God has given me, in that I am done well and helped the society and the country.

Three pieces of advice for the younger version of Sudha Murthy:

  1. Learn swimming or learn anyone sport

2. “Focus on what you want to do and be ethical(it leads to success)”

3. “Please understand your parents and learn from them always
Don’t think that old people do not have new ideas, it is not the new ideas, it is the mature ideas.”

Sudha Murthy’s movie list:

Madhumati
Lagaan
Naya Daur
Araadhana
Mughal-e-azam
Ganga Jamuna
Hum Dono
Parakh
DDLJ
Raazi
Veer-Zaara
MSD
Avishkaar

and Nargis Dutt’s movie.

That’s it!!! And amongst this, my personal favorite was:

“I may lose the battle but I will win the war.”

❤❤❤
